Aaron K. Dickey

In a way, I became an asbestos attorney as an attempt to stay in the family business–you see my father has been involved in researching cancer treatment for over 30 years at the University of Kentucky, while my brother, at the University of Chicago, researches how to reconnect damaged neurons.

I am proud of their work helping cancer patients and stroke victims, and I realized while still in law school that I wished that I could contribute in my own way. I spent the next few years being involved in cases involving medical injury due to occupational exposures to various chemicals including carcinogens. The numerous needs of people with cancer hit home personally when I had to take care of a family member with cancer while she underwent treatments at one of the best facilities in the world-Siteman Cancer Center at Washington University.

I realized that despite the fact that I would never go to medical school, I could help victims of environmental and occupational toxins by helping them seek proper medical care; ensuring that their income and benefits were provided; and letting them know that they could count on me to look out for the interests of their family if treatment does not succeed.

There are real life consequences to the decisions and events that happen to people in their lives and workplaces, and asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma are just some of the diseases that can be legally linked to asbestos. My job at GHAR is to help the client and the family, while always keeping service to the person the highest priority.
